for November, 2013
Calatagan, Batangas is a 4-to-5-hour drive from Manila. (Well, it should have been faster if my friend, who was driving, didn’t get lost on the road.) This bamboo raft was the perfect dining table and the best front row seat to witness the sunset.
Back in 2008, I got a DSLR camera as a graduation gift. (Well it’s more of coercing my dad to buy that for me. I offered to pay 50% of the camera’s price.) Zero knowledge and experience in photography then this opportunity knocks: A friend called if I was interested to try this photo contest by Nike & the Philippine Daily Inquirer 2BU. Various photographers will shoot at the same time an assigned athlete then the best collage wins. I wanted to decline because I was a complete noob and I know that I’ll be eaten alive by the other guys that will be joining. But when she said the prize was going to be a P20,000 shopping spree in Nike, I told her to count me in. So I did my research & practice and poof
it became Koko Krunch, I won the contest.
These photos of Aly Borromeo were taken when The Azkals (Philippine National Football Team) wasn’t as big as it is today. I was totally clueless of who he was but thanks to him, I was able to test my skills on the field. Thanks man, you sparked my interest with portrait photography. And thanks to Nike, I took home tons of items from your store.
My collage, together with 3 other collages of athletes from other fields, was featured in the 2BU section of the Philippine Daily Inquirer. See the actual collage HERE.
